Henri Herbert was born in France but raised in the U.K. He was drawn to the piano after listening to the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis and was self taught from a very early age. Having seen him on television he got his dad to show him a few Jerry Lee patterns which led him to continue on, listening and trying to copy what was being played. He was self taught up to the age of eighteen, when he found a guy by the name of ‘Diz Watson’ in Brixton, who he would travel down to from Nottingham so he could show him more boogie woogie piano. Another boogie woogie pianist ‘Big John Carter’ also encouraged Henri to play and sing also.
Henri started playing gigs at around sixteen, leading to him to join the Jim Jones Revue 2011 until their disbandment in 2014, it was after this that he decided to try a solo career, which has produced recording from his band and also solo boogie woogie piano. As of writing this, Henri is in Austin Texas, having moved there in 2019.
Henri’s style is strongly influenced by his hero Jerry Lee Lewis (among others like Little Richard, Otis Spann and Albert Ammons) it’s highly energetic and rhythmic. You might know him from being on ‘You Tube’ where some recordings of him playing live at the piano in St. Pancreas station in London have amassed millions of views, at the time of writing, one is listed as having thirty nine million views, an amazing amount for such a niche style of music.
